Faculty Affairs Residency (FAR)

Spring 2026 | Office of Faculty Affairs

APPLY HERE  Applications accepted through May 9, 2025

The Faculty Affairs Residency (FAR) is a unique, semester-long opportunity for Penn State faculty to gain direct, hands-on experience in the strategic and operational work of faculty affairs. FAR is not a fellowship or a shadowing experience—it’s a working residency designed for faculty who are curious about leadership and ready to contribute meaningfully to institution-wide efforts that support faculty success.

Participants will engage in high-impact projects, collaborate with Faculty Affairs leadership, and produce tangible deliverables that help shape policy, professional development, and institutional systems. Residents manage their own workflow and schedules while attending relevant meetings and submitting a final report or portfolio summarizing their work.

Eligibility

FAR is open to full-time Penn State faculty who meet the following criteria:

  • Tenure-line or non-tenure-line faculty with a multi-year appointment
  • Currently at the second rank (typically Associate Professor or equivalent)
  • Minimum of five consecutive years of faculty experience at Penn State
  • Demonstrated interest in academic leadership or institutional strategy
  • Endorsement from academic unit head or dean/chancellor

Key Features

  • Strategic Engagement: Collaborate on initiatives such as faculty evaluation models, onboarding improvements, mentoring programs, and more.
  • Professional Development: Gain institutional insight, cross-campus connections, and administrative experience.
  • Support: One-course buyout provided during Spring 2026.

Application Process

To apply, submit the following by May 9, 2025:

  • Current CV
  • Statement of interest describing your motivations, qualifications, and project area preferences
  • Letter of support from your unit leader

Applicants will be notified of selection outcomes by late May 2025.
