Penn State’s new professional development program for non-tenure-line teaching, clinical, research and professors of practice faculty, provides funding for professional development through a self-proposed development project.
Beginning on Monday, November 4, 2024, non-tenure-line teaching, clinical, research, and professors of practice faculty can apply to the Opportunity Grant Professional Development for NTL Faculty Program for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications are due Dec. 9, 2024.
Eligibility
To be eligible, faculty must:
- have reached second rank or higher
- have worked full-time at Penn State for five consecutive years or more
- have the support of their academic unit head.
Details
- The proposal should encompass activity that is above and beyond what the applicant is normally contracted to do.
- Course/time buyouts are available for projects in academic year 2025–2026.
- The five-year waiting period will begin for those who receive funding in fall 2025 and beyond.
- The grant may not be used for summer salary.
Notification
Selected recipients will be announced in January.
Future funding and application cycles
Applications for the 2026-2027 Opportunity Grant Professional Development Program will open in fall 2025. A committee will review applications in December, and successful applicants will be notified in January about the funding of their projects, including any course buyouts, for the following academic year. This schedule will continue in subsequent years.
